Spring
As we await bud break we look at this time as here we go again. Our winter weather has been so up and down we are not sure what to expect. People will always ask us when is bud break? Michael’s comment is March 28th around 3:30 in the afternoon. We shall see how close he is this year. Our first vines were planted in 1997 with an acre each of Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc. What an adventure we had begun! We watched these vines carefully as some took off growing quickly and others took their time. We were the first vineyard in Yadkin County and our neighbors were curious. I remember one afternoon as Michael and I were working in the vineyard a father and his daughter rode by on their bicycles. “Daddy, what are they doing? They are planting grapes, and working very hard. ” Remember, we were two art teachers who decided to plant a vineyard. I remember those days and how much we have learned and how it is still a wonder to watch the grapes grow during the coming weeks. Please come out over the next weeks and months to see the vines because before you know it all of those beautiful bunches will be harvested and turning into your favorite whites and eventually reds. These photos are from years past.
