Our Weekend
Sitting on the front porch on this beautiful Friday afternoon I think about tomorrow and a brand new festival up in West Jefferson that we are going to attend. The weather will not be like today, but we can hope for it.
We will bring some of our regulars to this festival and a few special wines to share also. We live in such a wine world and it is always amazing when I get asked if we are a new winery and why they did not know about us before now.
For us, every weekend is busy. Sometimes we go off, as in tomorrow, but usually we enjoy sharing our wines with others right here in the tasting room.
Later on Sunday afternoon we are going to have a special vertical tasting of our 1897s. We will be sharing 6 vintages- 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009 and 2010. A surprise or two is planned also. This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. Proportions vary over the years depending upon the harvest. This wine was aged almost 6 years before bottling in older oak. Michael wanted to see what would happen when a North Carolina wine was aged. We look forward to the afternoon. The photo below was the invitation to our first release party of the 1897. We feel this sums it up perfectly!
