Cabernet Vertical Tasting
March 29, 2019
Last Sunday afternoon we had a Cabernet Vertical Tasting. We brought in a 2000, 2001, 2006, 2012 single barrel bottled after 2 years and another 2012 bottled after 4 years. Oh, and then the not yet bottled 2014. The HP Reserve was also poured. Our group varied in wine tastes and all added much in the way of feedback. A few bottles were available for sale also.
So what did everyone think? My notes loved the 2001- it did not seem like an older wine. The nose, as well as the taste, was so nice.
The 2000 was still good and a smile was on most faces. To be able to taste a 2000 North Carolina wine is special, and it was very drinkable.
2012 Cabs- both Wine as Art and Cab 3.2.1-were food friendly with similar aromas. Richness in taste made these so pleasant with beef and cheeses.
The HP Reserve was a one of a kind wine created by Michael using different wines from different vintages. Still wonderful.
So what does all this mean? An afternoon enjoying Cabernets from Hanover Park and sharing thoughts and opinions about these wines. To be able to drink an older Cab, almost twenty years old in North Carolina is special right there.
When you are in the area come by and ask to look at the vintage wine rack. We have 2 areas where some people sit to find a special older wine they want to take home and enjoy.
